I always think that dogs just know when any animal needs them and that they have a benevolent level of sympathy, but then I remember the time my dog grabbed a goose by the neck with her teeth and shook it like a god damn protein shake.

I think this is called “resource guarding”, or something like that. As scavengers, dogs will guard anything they perceive to be of value even if it doesn’t make immediate sense to us… like in this case with the lobster. The idea i think being that anything that could give them a potential survival edge is to be coveted
